The RoleAn outstanding Secondary Academy in Plymouth is seeking a professional, highly analytical, and exceptionally organised Biology Specialist to join their thriving Science faculty. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day instructional leadership across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. The timetable will involve delivering a rich, challenging curriculum covering molecular genetics, cellular metabolic pathways, physiology, and ecological dynamics for GCSE and A-Level exam cohorts, alongside delivering general science modules across Key Stage 3. Beyond classroom teaching, responsibilities include constructing comprehensive student tracking portfolios, implementing targeted intervention tracks for laboratory data fluency, managing parental correspondence, and supporting the school's regional environmental field studies and STEM initiatives.
You will act as a primary link with parents, examination boards, and local university biomedical networks, requiring absolute professionalism and data accuracy at all times. Strong organisational skills are a prerequisite, as you will balance heavy mock diagnostic marking cycles with real-time digital progress logging and strict laboratory health and safety compliance tracking (COSHH frameworks).

RequirementsA recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) with a degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related field
Proven experience teaching Biology up to GCSE and A-Level specifications
Professional and proactive approach to managing laboratory health and safety protocols (COSHH frameworks)
Good IT and data tracking capabilities, with confidence using digital learning platform tracking systems
Ability to work effectively and adaptably within a fast-paced science department
