Description
A vibrant and high-achieving secondary school in Plymouth is seeking a technically gifted and proactive Science Technician to join its successful Science faculty as soon as possible. This is a mission-critical role that ensures the safe, efficient, and inspiring delivery of practical Science across all key stages, from KS3 through to A-Level.
The department is well-resourced and ambitious, and you will work alongside a dedicated team of specialist teachers and other technicians to bring complex scientific concepts to life through experimentation.
Key Responsibilities
Practical Preparation: Preparing equipment, chemical solutions, and biological materials for daily lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Safety & Compliance: Ensuring all laboratories and preparation rooms comply with CLEAPSS health and safety regulations and managing the safe storage and disposal of hazardous substances (COSHH).
Technical Maintenance: Maintaining, calibrating, and repairing delicate laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, data loggers, and power packs.
Classroom Assistance: Actively supporting teaching staff during practical sessions, providing technical guidance to students, and ensuring safe working practices are always followed.
Inventory Management: Managing the stock levels of chemicals and consumables, identifying equipment for purchase, and liaising with suppliers to ensure the department is always fully equipped.
Lab Organization: Ensuring laboratories are clean, safe, and ready for use between lesson changes, and managing the long-term organization of the prep rooms.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
A degree or strong academic background in a Science-related discipline.
Previous experience as a Science Technician, ideally within a secondary school or college environment.
A thorough understanding of current health and safety protocols within a laboratory setting.
Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight lesson-change deadlines.
Salary Competitive pro-rata salary (Scale dependent on experience)
