Graduate Science Teaching Assistant | Leeds | Up to £560 per week Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:30pm
You've worked hard for your Science degree. Now it's time to put it to work — and find out if teaching is where you're meant to be.
A thriving secondary school in Leeds is looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Science Teaching Assistant to join their Science department for either an immediate start or September 2026. This isn't just a stepping stone — it's a launchpad.
The role
You'll be embedded in a successful, well-resourced Science department, working across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at GCSE and A-Level. From supporting students in the classroom to running targeted interventions and assisting with practical lab work, you'll gain the kind of hands-on experience that forms the foundation of a brilliant teaching career.
What you'll be doing
Supporting student success
Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions for students who need extra support
Help GCSE and A-Level students master challenging concepts and exam techniques
Work with learners across all abilities — from those building core understanding to high-achievers pushing for top grades
Support practical laboratory work and scientific investigations
Building your teaching skills
Assist experienced teachers in delivering engaging Science lessons
Develop strategies for making complex scientific ideas accessible and exciting
Learn classroom management techniques in a structured, supportive environment
Observe outstanding teaching practice firsthand and apply what you learn
Gain hands-on experience with lab safety and practical demonstrations
Making a real difference
Watch students' confidence grow as concepts click into place
Help young people develop the critical thinking and analytical skills they'll carry for life
Contribute to a department with a strong track record of results
Play your part in inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals
What you'll need
A degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Biology (2:1 or higher) — your subject knowledge is at the heart of this role
A genuine passion for education and helping young people succeed
Enthusiasm, resilience, and a collaborative approach
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (child workforce)
It would be great if you also have:
Any tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering experience with young people
Familiarity with the UK secondary Science curriculum
Clear ambitions to pursue Qualified Teacher Status
Experience with practical or laboratory-based science
No formal teaching experience? No problem. This role is built to develop aspiring teachers from the ground up — we're investing in your potential, not just your CV.
