**Job Requirements****Bioveterinary Scientist, Microbiology**
**£30,000 - £35,000**
**Leamington Spa**
**Permanent, Full Time**
**37.5 hours per week. Monday - Saturday rota, working 8 hour shifts between 7am - 5pm.**
At Antech, we are passionate about creating A Better World for Pets, and we are looking for a detail-driven Microbiology Bioveterinary Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will provide high-quality diagnostic laboratory services, applying your specialist knowledge and technical skills to ensure the accurate and timely analysis of animal samples. By delivering reliable results, you will play a key part in supporting the health and wellbeing of animals. **Key responsibilities include:**
+ Perform sample set-ups, reading, and reporting of assigned cultures and sensitivities using approved protocols.
+ Analyse microbiology samples using advanced laboratory instruments including MALDI-ToF, Sensititre MIC system, anaerobic chamber, MSCs, blood culture systems, and more.
+ Carry out routine instrument setup, calibration, and maintenance.
+ Perform PCR testing on clinical samples using automated nucleic acid extractors and real-time PCR instruments.
+ Read, understand, adhere to, and contribute to the review and writing of relevant SOPs, policies, and QA guidelines.
+ Maintain strict compliance with quality control standards to ensure accurate and reliable results.
+ Participate in ongoing departmental training to maintain technical competency.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance laboratory processes, efficiency, and quality standards.
+ Assist with inventory management, ensuring adequate stock of reagents and consumables.
+ Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in line with laboratory Health & Safety procedures.
+ Support wider laboratory activities across departments as required, including special projects and additional duties aligned to business needs.
**Work Experience**
+ Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a science-related field, preferably Microbiology or Molecular Biology.
+ Proven experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory environment.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to apply aseptic technique consistently.
+ Familiarity with microbiological terminology, equipment, and processes such as sample streaking, sub-culturing, isolate identification, and antimicrobial sensitivity testing (MIC and disc diffusion).
+ Knowledge of companion animal parasite identification.
+ Desirable, but not essential: molecular biology experience.
+ Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills.
+ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
+ Competent in data entry, Microsoft Office, and laboratory information systems.
+ Flexible and adaptable to meet the evolving needs of the department and business.
